Senior Department of Energy Official to Highlight Department’s Efforts to Safely Manage and Clean Up Nuclear Waste at Sites Across the Nation
 
WASHINGTON, DC – On Monday, February 25, 2008, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Assistant Secretary for Environmental Management Jim Rispoli will participate in the plenary panel at the 34th Annual Waste Management Symposia in Phoenix, Arizona.  Assistant Secretary Rispoli is expected to discuss the Department’s priorities for safely and responsibly cleaning up the Nation’s Cold War era nuclear waste as well as DOE’s Fiscal Year 2009 budget request for environmental management.

The Waste Management Symposia provides an annual forum for discussing and seeking solutions to the safe management of radioactive waste and radioactive materials and is organized in cooperation with DOE, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the International Atomic Energy Agency.  Office of Environmental Management has more information on DOE’s efforts to reduce risk and cleanup the environmental legacy of the Nation’s nuclear weapons program.
