| Statement from Ward Sproat on Yucca Mountain | |
| Director of the Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management | |
| We appreciate Congress’s bipartisan vote this afternoon in support of the President’s FY2008 funding request for a permanent repository at Yucca Mountain, Nevada. Yucca Mountain is critical to the nation’s current and future energy and national security needs. We are moving forward to submit a credible and defensible License Application to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission no later than June 30, 2008 and full funding for the FY2008 request will help us achieve this important mission. I look forward to working with Congress to advance the opening of the nation’s first geologic repository for spent nuclear fuel and high level radioactive waste. | |
