| Department of Energy Honors 50 ENERGY STAR® Partners that Saved Consumers $10 Billion | |
| WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) honored 50 companies, organizations and government entities that have helped to significantly reduce greenhouse gases while improving energy efficiency at an awards ceremony at the Capital Hilton in Washington, D.C. last night (March 15, 2005). The award winners have cumulatively saved consumers $10 billion in energy costs over the past year alone.
“A key part of the President’s comprehensive energy plan is conservation,” said Secretary of Energy Samuel W. Bodman. “These outstanding leaders’ innovative approach to conservation has helped to dramatically improve America’s energy security.” ENERGY STAR® began in 1992 as a voluntary, market-based partnership to reduce air pollution through increased energy efficiency. Today, DOE, in partnership with EPA, offers businesses and consumers energy-efficient solutions to save energy and money while helping to protect the environment for future generations. More than 7,000 organizations have become ENERGY STAR® partners which are committed to improving the energy efficiency of products, homes and businesses. “The Department of Energy is proud to champion programs like ENERGY STAR® that target the things Americans use everyday, saving energy costs today and promoting energy security,” said David K. Garman, Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. Last year alone, Americans, with the help of ENERGY STAR®, saved enough energy to power 20 million homes, reducing greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to that of 20 million cars -- all while saving consumers an incredible $10 billion. Additionally, more than 360,000 new homes have earned the ENERGY STAR® distinction, and more than 15,000 office buildings, schools, supermarkets and hotels have benchmarked their energy performance as a basis for future progress. All this was accomplished without sacrificing quality, features or personal comfort. The ENERGY STAR® Award Winners and their categories are: Excellence in Efficient Homes
Excellence in Energy Management
Excellence in Efficient Products
Excellence in Energy Efficiency and Environmental Education
