Duke Energy’s comprehensive grid modernization program, funded in part by a Smart Grid Investment Grant from the Department of Energy, has reduced outages and improved power quality for Ohio and Carolinas customers. The case study for this project is now available for downloading.

Municipal Utilities' Investment in Smart Grid Technologies Improves Services and Lowers Costs

OE has released a new Smart Grid report describing the activities of three municipal utilities that received funding through the Recovery Act Smart Grid Investment Grant program. "Municipal Utilities' Investment in Smart Grid Technologies Improves Services and Lowers Costs" reports on the benefits of the cities' investments, including improved operating efficiencies, lower costs, shorter outages, and reduced peak demands and electricity consumption.

Now Available - Customer Participation in the Smart Grid: Lessons Learned

The Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability has released a new report titled "Customer Participation in the Smart Grid: Lessons Learned." The report highlights the experiences of four Recovery Act Smart Grid Investment Grant projects with customer education and outreach efforts, which are key ingredients for Smart Grid success.

Two New Energy Storage Safety Reports Now Available

The Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability has released two reports on energy storage safety: “Overview of Development and Deployment of Codes, Standards and Regulations Affecting Energy Storage System Safety in the United States” and “Inventory of Safety-Related Codes and Standards for Energy Storage Systems.” Both reports were produced by Pacific Northwest National Laboratory as part of OE’s Energy Storage Safety Initiative.

EAC September 2014 Meeting Final Work Products Now Available

Four documents approved at the September 2014 meeting by the Electricity Advisory Committee and delivered to the Department of Energy are now available for downloading. The mission of the Electricity Advisory Committee is to provide advice to DOE in implementing the Energy Policy Act of 2005, executing the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, and modernizing the nation's electricity delivery infrastructure.

Transmission Reliability "Load as a Resource" Peer Review Materials Now Available

OE’s Transmission Reliability program is conducting R&D projects on “Load as a Resource” (LaaR) that explore how various types of customer loads could be turned on and off for short periods of time to provide services normally performed by generators. A program peer review was held on September 16, 2014. Materials including the agenda and presentations are now available.
