The DOE-funded Power Systems Engineering Research Center (PSERC) is offering a free public webinar that will present a new robust optimization model for transmission planning. This model considers the addition of new renewable generation, and the retirement of existing generation capacity as sources of uncertainty, anticipates the worst scenario that would result in the highest investment and operational cost for each transmission plan, and identifies the most robust plan with the least costly worst case scenario. This approach is demonstrated with the WECC 240-bus test system case study.

The webinar will be presented by Lizhi Wang, an Associate Professor in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering at Iowa State University. Dr. Wang received his Ph.D. in 2007 from the University of Pittsburgh. His research interests include bilevel optimization algorithm design, power systems modeling and analysis, transportation system resiliency assessment and enhancement, manufacturing supply chain design, and plant breeding.

The webinar will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2016 from 2-3 p.m. ET. No pre-registration is necessary.
