October 3, 2011 - 8:11am

Western Electricity Coordinating Council releases its first-ever transmission plan for the Western Interconnection.

The Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) announced the release of its first 10-Year Regional Transmission Plan (Plan) for the Western Interconnection. The Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability awarded WECC a $14.5 million grant under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to expand on its transmission planning activities.

Looking ahead to 2020, the Plan focuses on how to meet the Western Interconnection’s transmission requirements, including transmission expansion, new generation development, adapting to local, state/provincial, and federal policy changes, and their associated financial and environmental costs.

The Plan is available on the WECC website. The WECC release is available here.
