FRIDAY: Deputy Secretary Poneman to Announce 2009 Solar Decathlon Winners

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Deputy Secretary of Energy Dan Poneman will announce the winners of the 2009 Solar Decathlon on Friday, October 16 starting at 8:00am ET.  A week ago, 20 teams began a competition to test the performance of the solar-powered, high-efficiency homes that they have designed and built.  Friday’s announcement will cap off a competition that included tests in 10 areas ranging from architecture, comfort, livability and market viability to how well the solar homes provide energy for space heating and cooling, hot water, lights, and appliances. 

WHAT:
2009 U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon Award Ceremony

WHERE:
The Solar Village on the National Mall between 10th and 14th Streets; the ceremony will
take place near 14th Street, inside the large white tent.

WHEN:
Friday, October 16, 8:00am ET

The solar homes will remain open to the public for tours on Friday from 11am to 3pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm.
