WASHINGTON, DC – On Thursday and Friday, Acting Deputy Secretary of Energy Jeffrey Kupfer will lead a delegation of senior U.S. agency representatives including the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) Chief Operating Officer John McAdams, the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) President Robert Mosbacher and the United States Trade and Development Agency (TDA) Director Larry Walther to Istanbul, Turkey, to further U.S.-Turkey collaboration on key projects to enhance Turkish energy security. Specifically, Kupfer and the U.S. delegation—which includes experts in the fields of finance and risk mitigation—will with meet with their Turkish counterparts to discuss Turkey’s priorities for the development, financing and insurance of energy projects such as pipelines, power plants, and electricity distribution systems.

“The U.S. government is serious about its commitment to assist Turkey with its own energy security, as part of our larger regional strategy for increased energy production and multiple transit routes,” Kupfer said. “Our experts, in collaboration with Turkish counterparts, can work to deploy renewable and nuclear energy and clean coal technologies, as well as increase the reliability and efficiency of electricity generation and delivery.”

On Thursday, the U.S. Delegation will meet with Turkish and U.S. Embassy officials. He will also participate in a media roundtable.

On Friday, the U.S. Delegation will meet with international energy companies and Kupfer will participate in the World Economic Forum - an independent international organization committed to improving the state of the world by engaging leaders in partnerships to shape global, regional and industry agendas.

Kupfer’s trip builds upon the ongoing work of the U.S. Department of Energy to increase energy security at home and abroad through the implementation of bold policies to maximize domestic resources, diversify energy supplies and increase energy efficiency.
