U.S. Department of Energy Official to Host Press Conference on Wind Industry Cooperation
WASHINGTON – U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Alexander (Andy) Karsner will host a press conference at the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) WIND POWER 2008 Conference to discuss DOE’s cooperation with the wind private sector to achieve 20 percent Wind Energy by 2030.
DOE recently released a report, “20 Percent Wind Energy in 2030,” which examines the technical feasibility of harnessing wind power to provide up to 20 percent of the nation’s total electricity needs by 2030. Most notably, the report identified opportunities for 7.6 cumulative gigatons of CO2 to be avoided by 2030, saving 825 million metric tons in 2030 and every year thereafter if wind energy achieves 20 percent of the nation’s electricity mix.
Wind power is a critical component of the Bush Administration’s long-term strategy to increase our nation’s energy and economic security through the research, development and deployment of clean, cutting-edge technologies. DOE is partnering with the private sector to diversify our nation’s energy supply and fundamentally change the way we power our homes, businesses and vehicles.
