Secretary of Energy at U.S. Chamber of Commerce to Highlight Role of Biofuels in Increasing Global Energy Security
Press conference to immediately follow keynote remarks

WASHINGTON, DC – On Tuesday, January 29, 2008, U.S. Secretary of Energy Samuel W. Bodman will deliver keynote remarks at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Biofuels Dialogue Series, “Outlook for an Emerging Global Biofuels Market,” to announce the selection of small-scale cellulosic ethanol biorefinery projects.  Secretary Bodman is also expected to highlight the Administration's comprehensive strategy to increase the use of renewable fuels and other clean energy technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help meet rapidly growing global demand for energy.  The Secretary will host a press conference immediately following his remarks.

In May 2007, the Department of Energy released a Funding Opportunity Announcement that sought proposed projects to develop biorefineries at ten percent of commercial scale using novel and innovative approaches.  Furthering the President’s Advanced Energy Initiative, which seeks to change the way we power our cars, homes and businesses, these small-scale biorefineries will produce fuels such cellulosic ethanol to transform our transportation sector, as well as bio-based chemicals and bioproducts that can be used in a multitude of industrial applications.
