Statement by Energy Secretary Samuel W. Bodman on Senator Pete Domenici’s Retirement from the U.S. Senate

"Senator Pete Domenici is a great American and friend who has performed an extraordinary service for the people of this country.  As a leader in the United States Senate, he pioneered the development and passage of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 -- our nation’s first comprehensive energy legislation in more than a decade.  As a key proponent of nuclear power, his efforts will ensure that future generations benefit from this clean, safe, and reliable source of energy.  Senator Domenici is a strong partner in advancing the Department of Energy's mission and has been a champion of our world-class national laboratories.  For four decades, Pete has worked tirelessly for the people of New Mexico, and represented them with honor and distinction.  I appreciate his commitment and dedication to public service, and I look forward to working with him for the remainder of the session.  I wish Pete and his family all the best for the future."
