Energy Department Awards Key Cleanup Contracts to Small Businesses
Section 8 (a) Businesses to Perform Cleanup Work at Small Sites

WASHINGTON, DC -The Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Environmental Management (EM) has awarded nationwide contracts to five Section 8 (a) businesses to perform environmental cleanup work at small DOE sites across the country.

The cleanup work will be performed at Argonne National Laboratory-East in Illinois, the Separations Process Research Unit in New York; Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, and Brookhaven National Laboratory in New York.

"These contract awards demonstrate the department's belief that small businesses are able to meet the high standards set by DOE in performing its accelerated cleanup program both safely and efficiently and at a cost savings to the taxpayer," Jessie Roberson, Assistant Secretary for Environmental Management said.

The contracts, called Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contracts, cover a variety of work ranging from environmental remediation services, to deactivation, demolition and removal of buildings that have been contaminated with asbestos and other contaminants.

The five selected companies are: Innovative Technical Solutions Inc. located in Walnut Creek, Calif; MKM Engineers Inc. in Stafford, Texas; North Wind, Inc. in Idaho Falls, Idaho; Portage Environmental in Espanola N.M. and Environmental Resource Group, LLC in Albuquerque, N.M. These contracts are the first of those associated with the ongoing EM IDIQ effort. In the near future, a Request for Proposal for the full array of tasks will be issued with a competitive Section 8(a) portion, a small business set-aside portion and a full and open competition portion.
