Statement by Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham on Dr. Edward Teller

We are deeply saddened by the news of the death of Dr. Edward Teller and send our condolences to his family.

As I said last year when I presented him the Secretary’s Gold Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to science and the security of the nation, Dr. Teller is one of the giant figures of the 20th century, whose contributions to winning both World War II and the Cold War are immeasurable.

Dr. Teller had an impact not only on science, but on generations of scientists who worked with him and learned from him.   All of us are going to miss his inspired and creative genius.
