EA 1713: Final Environmental Assessment

Celgard LLC Electric Drive Vehicle Battery and Component Manufacturing Initiative Project Concord, North Carolina

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) proposes, through a cooperative agreement with Celgard LLC (Celgard), to partially fund the construction of a small industrial facility (approximately 135,000 square feet) on approximately 20.6 acres of land for the manufacturing of separator materials for commercial hybrid-electric vehicle (HEV) batteries. The facility would be constructed on parcels within the International Business Park, Concord, North Carolina. This facility would support the anticipated growth in the lithium-ion battery industry and, more specifically, the HEV industry. If approved, DOE would provide approximately 50 percent of the funding for the project.
