PlasTek™ is patent-pending technology created by Inviroment that facilitates the biodegradation of all types of plastic found in landfills. PlasTek™ is not a biodegradable plastic, but a treatment for all plastics. The science PlasTek™ is based on has been proven in laboratories, and Inviroment has permission to begin a landfill test in Fall 2013.
PlasTek™ technology is an environmentally safe, chemical solution that starts decomposing plastics in a matter of months. PlasTek™ is sprayed onto waste as it is deposited into a landfill. By adopting PlasTek™, landfills benefit in the following three ways:
1. PlasTek™ breaks down plastics, resulting in a 13-20% increase landfill capacity
2. PlasTek™ accelerates methane output as plastics decompose, leading to increased green energy harvest
3. By applying PlasTek™ daily, the average landfill will save over 109,000 cubic yards of space per year and collect 8 million m3 of methane per year -- a $3.1 million savings in space -- increasing the life of the landfill -- and a potential revenue stream of $5.8 million per year from methane-powered energy
Inviroment will target waste management companies and independent landfills in the US. First, Inviroment will target the 594 landfills in the US that already have methane-to-energy collection systems in place. Inviroment has established relationships with several dozen landfill managers and industry professionals, and each is very interested in our product. Inviroment has two letters of intent with four more on the way.
Inviroment is the winner of the CU Cleantech Competition sponsored by the US Department of Energy.
