Iowa
Iowa has instituted one of the country’s most aggressive energy efficiency and renewable energy campaigns. By 2010, state agencies must begin purchasing 10% of their electricity from renewable sources, and reduce overall energy consumption by 15%. Iowa is home to the Department of Energy’s Ames National Laboratory which conducts fundamental research in the physical, chemical, and mathematical sciences associated with energy generation and storage. |

American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
A portion of the funds from the State Energy Program are allocated by formula among the states. To apply for a grant from the remaining funds, each Governor is required to write a letter to the Secretary of Energy explaining that the state will pursue policies to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy as outlined in Section 410 page 32 of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
