The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Indian Energy, in partnership with Western Area Power Administration (Western), will present the next Tribal Renewable Energy Series webinar, Organizational Models for Tribal Energy Development, on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2015, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mountain time.

Attendees will learn about the benefits of developing new organizations to support energy project development, including the ability to effectively manage and implement projects that significantly contribute to community economic development and support tribal goals of energy self-sufficiency and self-determination.

“Utility infrastructure ownership is a clear path for any Tribe to self-sufficiency," said webinar presenter Margie Schaff, an energy consultant who will talk about the types of tribal utilities that have formed, highlighting examples from Western’s report Tribal Authority Process Case Studies: The Conversion of On-Reservation Electric Utilities to Tribal Ownership and Operation.

Doug MacCourt, Chair of Ater Wynne’s Tribal Business Group and author of Renewable Energy Development in Indian Country: A Handbook for Tribes, will round out the webinar with insights and key lessons learned from his practice.

In addition to learning about available business models, attendees will learn how to identify the optimal model for establishing strategic partnerships with private industry to advance tribal energy projects and initiatives.
