The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Indian Energy is hosting a workshop on April 25, 2016, to help Alaska Native communities identify opportunities to engage with federal agencies to advance their energy projects and address energy and climate challenges. The event will be held in conjunction with the Alaska Rural Energy Conference, which takes place April 26–28 in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Workshop speakers will include Office of Indian Energy Director Chris Deschene and Senior Policy Advisor Doug MacCourt, as well as representatives from other federal agencies and DOE’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory. The following topics will be covered:

  • Alaska rural energy issues, trends, and priorities
  • Federal agency partner programs for Alaska Natives
  • DOE programs and projects in Alaska
  • DOE programmatic efforts focused on the Arctic.
