Collaborative Worker Health and Safety Improvement Activities

Worker health and safety programs at DOE are most effective when they reflect the knowledge and experience of the Department's frontline workers.

"Our workers are the lifeblood of accomplishing the Department's mission at DOE sites, and as such, ensuring their safety is foremost," explains Glenn Podonsky, Chief Health, Safety and Security Officer. "It is imperative that we communicate and establish relationships with those elements that train, manage and represent our workforce to improve the safety culture at DOE sites."

HAMMER Steering Committee Meeting

The HAMMER Steering Committee is a group of nationally recognized leaders who offer their time and experience to HAMMER management in an interactive setting where everyone shares a common commitment—reducing health and safety risks to workers, emergency responders, and the public. Committee insight and recommendations strongly influence HAMMER policies, strategies, and direction. As an integral element of the partnership, the Steering Committee helps develop and sustain HAMMER.

2012 National Trainers’ Exchange for Department of Energy Safety and Health Trainers

A trainers' exchange is designed for trainers to share best practices and new techniques through a series of workshops conducted by the trainers themselves. The goals are to meet and share ideas about how to create more effective and empowering training, improve training skills, and exchange best practices and techniques.

NAPA Collaboration Project: Worker Dialogue to Improve Worker Health, Safety and Security

Beginning on June 14, 2010, the Office of Health, Safety and Security (HSS) at DOE, in partnership with the nonprofit, non-partisan National Academy of Public Administration, will host A Worker Dialogue: Improving Health, Safety and Security at DOE. This web-based “conversation” will engage the DOE workforce in an open, online dialogue to discuss challenges, generate innovative ideas and recommend ways to improve worker safety.
