The Office of the Assistant General Counsel for Environment provides legal review, support, and advice to DOE with regard to environmental protection and compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act, the Clean Air Act, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, the Clean Water Act, the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, the Endangered Species Act, the National Historic Preservation Act, the Atomic Energy Act, the Energy Reorganization Act, the Department of Energy Organization Act, the Uranium Mill Tailings Radiation Control Act, the Safe Drinking Water Act, the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act, and other applicable environmental protection laws, regulations, and requirements. In addition, the office provides legal guidance and support on matters of nuclear and non-nuclear public and worker safety and health relating to the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act, the Occupational Safety and Health Act, and the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board.
