Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship students getting hands-on experience at the National Energy Technology Lab

The Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Fossil Energy (FE) is now accepting applications for the 2017 Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship (MLEF) program.

The mission of the MLEF program is to strengthen a diverse pipeline of future science, engineering, technology and mathematics (STEM) professionals.   Since 1995, the program has provided students with opportunities to gain hands-on research experience with the goal of improving opportunities for under-represented students in fields.  The program has mentored several hundred of the best and brightest students from across the nation for future careers in the STEM workforce, while providing insight into how the DOE is working to meet the energy challenges of the future.

Candidates selected for the 10-week fellowship will train under the mentorship of program officials and scientists on focused research projects consistent with FE’s mission.  They will receive a stipend and may also be eligible to receive housing and travel allowance for the duration of the program.

All eligible candidates are encouraged to apply by December 30, 2016.
