DOE Awards Technical Assistance Contract for Moab Mill Tailings Cleanup

Cincinnati–The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today announced the award of an $18 million small disadvantaged business contract with S&K Aerospace, LLC, of St. Ignatius, Montana to continue to provide technical assistance services for the Moab Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action (UMTRA) Project in Moab, Utah. The basic contract is for three years with two one-year options to extend, for a total of up to five years.

DOE Reaches Recovery Act Goal With Cleanup of All Legacy Transuranic Waste at Sandia National Laboratories

CARLSBAD, N.M., May 3, 2012 –The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) completed cleanup of the Cold War legacy transuranic (TRU) waste at Sandia National Laboratories (Sandia) in Albuquerque, New Mexico when four shipments of remote-handled (RH) TRU waste from Sandia arrived at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) near Carlsbad, N.M. for permanent disposal on May 2, 2012.

Savannah River Site Team Wins Carolina Challenge at 2012 DOE Security Protection Officer Competition

Savannah River Site, Aiken, S.C. – Security Protection Officers from Savannah River
Site’s (SRS) security contractor WSI-SRS, today won the Department of Energy (DOE)
Secretary’s Trophy as the top DOE team in the 2012 Security Protection Officer Team
Competition (SPOTC)- 2012 Carolina Challenge, held here, April 22-26. It was the 40th
anniversary of the SPOTC competition.

RICHLAND, Wash. – The Department of Energy (DOE) plans to extend CH2M HILL Plateau Remediation Company’s contract for environmental cleanup at the Hanford Site by another five years.

Waste Treatment Facility Passes Federal Inspection, Completes Final Milestone, Begins Startup

The Idaho site today initiated the controlled, phased startup of a new waste treatment facility scheduled to begin treating 900,000 gallons of radioactive liquid waste stored in underground tanks at a former Cold War spent nuclear fuel reprocessing facility next month.

DOE Awards Management and Operating Contract for DOE’s Waste Isolation Pilot Plant

CARLSBAD, N.M. – The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced today that Nuclear Waste Partnership LLC (members comprised of URS Energy & Construction, Inc., of Boise, Idaho, and Babcock & Wilcox Technical Services Group, Inc., of Lynchburg, Virginia, and Major Subcontractor, AREVA Federal Services LLC, of Bethesda, Maryland) has been awarded a $1.3 billion contract for management and operating (M&O) at DOE’s Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Retrieval Of Final Stored Radioactive Waste Resumes
