Lessie B. Price - EMAB Board Member
Lessie Price has served as an elected member of the Aiken City Council for the past 24 years and was the first female to run and be elected to this post in the City’s history. She has also served as Mayor Pro-Tempore of Aiken and was elected by her peers across the State of South Carolina to serve as President of the Municipal Association of South Carolina, representing 274 towns and cities in the State.
In addition to her public service on the Aiken City Council, Ms. Price has 40 years experience at Savannah River Site in Human Resources, Organizational & Individual Development & Training Management. She currently serves as Manager of Government Affairs in the Public Affairs Office for URS Corporation. URS employs more than 45,000 employees in 34 countries with engineering, construction and technical expertise and environmental disciplines. Ms. Price’s primary role is to develop and maintain positive relationships with diverse stakeholders, including congressional offices, community leaders, chambers of commerce, civic and philanthropic organizations, and local, state and federal officials. She also represents the company on the local state and federal level, monitors issues, determines public policy priorities, responds to inquiries, serves as a grassroots advocate for disenfranchised communities, and works with colleges and universities across the country for placement opportunities for students. Ms. Price is also involved with with placement of interns at various locations across the DOE complex, the Environmental Justice Program, and the Americas Veteran Program.
Ms. Price is involved in various community, state and religious programs, and has received numerous awards and honors for her professional and civic involvement. Throughout her career she has volunteered her time and served on more than 50 boards and committees addressing local, state and national-level issues that pertain to Health Care, Education, Juvenile Justice, Lending Institutions, Arts and Culture, Municipal Government Concerns, Trade and Industrial Education, and Environmental Concerns. She currently serves as a member of the U. S. Department of Energy’s Environmental Management Advisory Board, the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education Foundation Board, the South Carolina State Chamber of Commerce Tourism Board, the Augusta Chamber of Commerce Women in Business Board, the News Channel 6 Advisory Board, the Aiken County Dollars for Scholars Board, the Graniteville Community Investment Board, the Department of Energy’s Environmental Justice Board, and the Lower Savannah Council of Government Workforce Development Board. Ms. Price also previously served as Chairman of the Aiken Regional Medical Center Board of Directors.
Ms. Price is currently a resident of Aiken, South Carolina, and was educated in the public schools of Aiken County, Allen University, and the University of South Carolina-Aiken Campus.
Ms. Price was appointed to EMAB to represent the views of the Aiken City Council.
