Michael G. Zimmerman - Director, Office of Headquarters Security Operations
Mr. Michael Zimmerman is the Director of the Office of Headquarters Security Operations. The office supports DOE Headquarters through a comprehensive safeguards and security program providing protection for personnel, information and facilities at DOE Headquarters buildings. The protection programs within the Office of Headquarters Security Operations include the Protective Force, Personnel Security, Classified Matter Protection and Control, Security Systems, Security Education and Awareness, Operations Security, Foreign Ownership, Control and Influence, Facility Registration, and the Security Survey Programs.
Prior to his current position, Mr. Zimmerman served as the Director of the Headquarters Information Security Program within the Office of Health, Safety and Security. (HSS) Mr. Zimmerman has 38 years of experience within DOE Safeguards and Security operations. This experience includes 25 years of service at the DOE Sandia National Laboratories, Tonopah Test Range, serving both the DOE and USAF protection needs.
He began his DOE security career as a DOE Protective Force Officer in 1976, progressing to senior management positions within Security and Emergency Response Operations. His experience has included Senior Management positions within DOE Protective Forces, Physical Security, and Fire, Medical and Hazardous Materials Response teams. He has extensive experience in all aspects of protection program planning and management that span the areas of basic facility protection to the protection of Special Nuclear Material in a dynamic field test environment.
