NREL's Renewable Energy Optimization (REopt) tool, developed through FEMP funding, is a screening tool that identifies and prioritizes cost-effective renewable energy opportunities at a single site or across a portfolio of sites. Early in 2015, REopt screened its 2000th federal facility across 18 federal agencies, providing valuable analysis that is directly leading to renewable energy development and deployment across the federal government.

Once the REopt analysis is complete, the tool provides a ranked list of renewable energy projects for different potential scenarios and identifies the technology sizes that meet the defined goals at minimum cost, along with the optimal deployment strategies.

The Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) works with key individuals to accomplish energy change within organizations by bringing expertise from all levels of project and policy implementation to enable federal agencies to meet energy related goals and to provide energy leadership to the country.
