March 19: Live Webcast on Wind Energy and Property Values

Webinar Sponsor: EERE Wind Program Stakeholder Engagement and Outreach initiative

The Energy Department will present a live webcast titled “Wind Energy and Property Values” on Wednesday, March 19, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time.  Carol Atkinson-Palombo, assistant professor at the University of Connecticut, will present her research from the recently released report, “Relationship Between Wind Turbines and Residential Property Values in Massachusetts.” Ben Hoen, staff research associate at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, will present findings from the report “A Spatial Hedonic Analysis of the Effects of Wind Energy Facilities on Surrounding Property Values in the United States.” Their research examined 122,000 Massachusetts real estate transactions between 1998 and 2012, and 50,000 U.S. transactions between 1996 and 2011, respectively. The authors will provide an overview of each of the report's methods and findings and will answer questions after the presentations.

March 31: Live Webinar on Best of the Clean Cities Tools and Resources

The Energy Department will present a live webinar titled “Best of the Clean Cities Tools and Resources,” on Monday, March 31, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. During this webinar, participants will learn about the top 10 resources the Clean Cities Technical Response Service uses to answer common questions related to alternative fuels, advanced vehicles, and other petroleum-reduction strategies. The presentation will give a brief overview of popular Alternative Fuels Data Center tools as well as resources available from the national laboratories, other federal agencies, and industry.

April 1: Live Webinar on Engaging Building Occupants to Reduce Energy Use

The Energy Department will present a live webinar titled “Engaging Building Occupants to Reduce Energy Use” on Tuesday, April 1, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. Learn how Better Buildings Challenge partners Michigan State University (MSU), Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and Transwestern have done just that. Lynda Boomer will share how MSU's Environmental Stewards program enlists champions from individual campus units or departments to track monthly energy metrics, promote energy-saving practices, and serve as liaisons to MSU’s sustainability program. Jon Utech will explain how the Cleveland Clinic Foundation is partnering with clinicians to smooth the way for technology upgrades and implement behavior-change strategies aimed at reducing energy and water consumption.  Dorothy Schwarz will speak on how Transwestern has developed a number of programs to encourage commercial building tenants to reduce their energy use.

The Energy Department participated in a webinar hosted by the Solar Energy Industries Association titled "Open for Business: How to Use DOE's Newest Facilities" on Tuesday, March 4. This webinar examined six new facilities that specialize in photovoltaic validation, testing and monitoring. Energy Department participants included Steve Chalk, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Renewable Energy, and Lidija Sekaric, a program manager for the SunShot Initiative.

March 4: Webinar on Adding Solar to Your Building Portfolio

Webinar Sponsor: Better Buildings Challenge

The Energy Department presented a webinar titled "Adding Solar to Your Building Portfolio" on Tuesday, March 4.  Several Better Buildings Challenge partners are incorporating solar power into their portfolio energy strategy as the technology becomes more efficient and affordable. The Dysart Unified School District in Arizona is nearing its goal of powering its buildings entirely by solar energy. MGM Resorts International is installing solar at the famous Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The Denver Housing Authority is adding solar to multifamily housing such as apartments and condominiums. The webinar features these partners sharing lessons learned and best practices on going solar.

February 26: Webinar on Strategic Energy Planning

The U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Indian Energy, EERE's Tribal Energy Program, and the Western Area Power Administration presented a Tribal Renewable Energy Series webinar titled "Strategic Energy Planning" on Wednesday, February 26. Learn about developing a strategic energy plan using key aspects of successful energy planning and available information and resources. The webinar also explains how a strategic energy plan enables a Tribe to mobilize long-term support that extends beyond changing political administrations, helps address barriers to energy development, and engages stakeholders from all segments of the community.
