Mechanical Insulation Education and Awareness E-Learning Series
Availability: Online self-paced workshop.
The Mechanical Insulation Education & Awareness Campaign, or MIC, is an eLearning series offered by the U.S. Department of Energy in conjunction with the National Insulation Association and the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers. Mechanical insulation can play a significant role in reducing facility energy loss and saving money in the process. Insulation also provides: excellent return on investment, workplace safety, environmental protection, condensation control, and noise control.
In conjunction with the MIC, the 3EPlus® tool is a useful resource for ensuring proper insulation usage. The tool calculates the most economic thickness of industrial insulation based on user-provided operating conditions and built-in thermal performance relationships of generic insulation materials. Users may also supply conductivity data for other insulation materials. An introduction and overview of this tool can be found in the Steam Tool Suite Training, which is available online.
