Course Description: Dr. Ron Sanders, Vice President, Booz Allen and Dr. Jim Trinka, Executive Director of the Leading EDGE Program for the Department of Veterans Affairs will present a program on Enterprise Leadership.

The world has changed for Federal leaders. Today’s reality is that most of the ‘wicked’ challenges we face extend far beyond our individual agency stovepipes and are increasingly boundary spanning and interagency, intergovernmental, even international in nature.  These cross-cutting challenges demand integrated, ‘whole of government’ solutions.  They also demand a new kind of enterprise leader—one that can operate effectively across agency boundaries to mobilize an entire Federal enterprise, building and leveraging organizational and individual networks to achieve interagency unity of effort…without the luxury of formal, chain-of-command authority.

These enterprise leaders are the subject of a new Brookings Institution book, “Tackling Wicked Government Problems: A Practical Guide for Enterprise Leaders,” and two of its contributors, Ron Sanders, one of government’s most respected human capital thought leaders, and Jim Trinka, Executive Director of Leading EDGE, the first interagency program designed to develop enterprise leadership skills, will lead us in a highly interactive session to discuss this emerging leadership model, share their own experiences as enterprise leaders, and help us describe the unique set of competencies and developmental strategies it requires.

Audience: DOE SES, SL/ST, Excepted Service, GS-9 through GS-15 Employees.
