Secretary Moniz Joins President Obama in Visit to Cleveland High-Strength Steel Factory

November 15, 2013 - 8:43am

President Obama delivers remarks at ArcelorMittal's Cleveland plant where they produce advanced high-strength steel.

Yesterday, Secretary Moniz joined President Obama as he toured ArcelorMittal's Cleveland plant where they produce advanced high-strength steel that is helping to improve fuel efficiency in vehicles.

The President spoke about the importance of American manufacturing and how commitments to renewable energy and energy efficiency are helping grow the economy and end our dependence on foreign oil. The President also spoke about new data from the Department of Energy that shows that for the month of October, America produced more oil than it imports:

"So we invested in new American technologies to reverse our addiction to foreign oil, double wind power, double solar power, produce more oil, produce more natural gas, and do it all in a way that is actually bringing down some of our pollution, making our entire economy more energy-efficient.  Today, we generate more renewable energy than ever.  We produce more natural gas than anybody in the world.  Just yesterday, we learned that for the first time since 1995, the United States of America produces more of our own oil here at home than we buy from other countries.  First time since 1995.  (Applause.)  And that’s a big deal.  That’s what America has done these past five years."
