Secretary Chu toured the Solar Village at the 2011 Solar Decathlon on the National Mall's West Potomac Park on September 30, 2011.
Earlier today, student Decathletes at the 2011 Solar Decathlon got to show off their homes – and the hard work they’ve done for the last two years -- to Secretary of Energy Steven Chu.
This morning, the Secretary toured the Solar Village on the National Mall’s West Potomac Park and spoke to students about the competition – which challenges teams to design, build and operate solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, energy-efficient and attractive.
This morning was a climactic one for the teams, who have braved the rain, heat and clouds for the past eight days on the National Mall. The sun was out in full-force today though, and the weather was perfect for the Secretary’s visit.
The 19 teams on the National Mall represent schools who traveled from across the U.S. and the globe to compete in the competition. The students were eager to speak with the Secretary about the energy efficiency technologies they employed in their houses and hear his thoughts on their designs and the competition.
Check out the above video to see highlights of the Secretary’s tour, and if you haven’t already been to the competition make sure to stop by this weekend during the hours of 10am and 5:30pm to see the homes and speak with the students who built them.
Winners of the competition will be announced tomorrow during the closing ceremonies. Check back to Energy.gov or SolarDecathlon.gov for the final results tomorrow afternoon following the Awards Ceremony.
