Deputy Secretary Poneman to Travel to Russia

Washington, D.C. - On Monday, December 6, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Energy Daniel Poneman will travel to Russia as part of the ongoing cooperation between the two countries on nuclear security and peaceful nuclear energy issues.

On Tuesday, Deputy Secretary Poneman will co-chair the U.S.-Russia Nuclear Energy and Nuclear Security Working Group Plenary Meeting with Director General of the State Atomic Energy Corporation "Rosatom" Sergei Kiriyenko. The Working Group was established under the U.S.-Russia Bilateral Presidential Commission at the July 2009 Presidential Summit. Last fall, Director Kiriyenko visited the United States for the first meetings of the Working Group. Following the plenary meeting, Deputy Secretary Poneman and Director Kiriyenko will hold a press availability.

During his trip, Deputy Secretary Poneman will also meet with Russian officials and business leaders to discuss shared energy challenges and opportunities.
